These introductory courses are designed for participants interested in learning about stem cell biology and basic cell culture techniques. All formats provide practical experience observing and maintaining animal-derived stem cells.
Target Audience: Individuals with no prior research experience
Introduction to Stem CellsĀ (1 day, $200): Participants will learn about the applications of cell culture in research. The course covers:
- overview of laboratory equipment
- aseptic technique for cell culture
- preparation of cell culture media
- basic light microscopy
Introduction to Stem CellsĀ (2 days, $400): Participants will learn and practice techniques needed for the maintenance, expansion, and characterization of stem cells. The course covers:
- all topics from the 1 day course
- thawing cryopreserved stem cells
- passaging stem cells for expansion
- assessment of stem cell morphology
Lab Techniques for the Job Market (5 days, $800): Participants will gain high proficiency with repeated practice of cell culture techniques used in academic and industry research labs. The course covers:
- all topics from the 2 day course
- thawing stem cells (x4)
- passaging stem cells (x3)
- counting cell numbers (x3)
- cryopreservation of stem cells (x3)
